3. The World of Ice and Fire: An Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones (HC)
Written by George R.R. Martin
Illustrated by Elio M. Garcia Jr. and Linda Antonsson
It goes without saying that Game of Thrones has taken the literary world by storm. Since the release of Game of Thrones (Book 1) the fantasy world of Westeros has just gotten bigger, and even more terrifying. This beautiful new collection is a great gift for that perfect someone in your life who just can’t know enough about White Walkers, and is always one step ahead (or so they think) of these witty and charismatic characters. The book goes into great detail about the workings of the world and people within it, as well as the history and culture of the realm. Oh, and the illustrations are downright gorgeous, so you even get a break from the rich blocks of text every once in a while. If you want to make someone’s bookshelf smile (and maybe the someone as well) this is a great start.
2. Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia (HC)
From Dark Horse and Nintendo

This crazy collection is awesome for any Zelda fan who wants to learn more about video game creation, character design, and actually have a list of the games in order (which is actually pretty helpful.) Not to mention, there’s full color super secret concept art included too, which just makes whoever receives this book into an instant video game lore ninja. Don’t you want to make someone into a knowledge ninja this holiday season? You know the answer.
1. Risk Legacy
From Hasbro Games
It’s come down to this. The ultimately awesome gift that will make you a celebrity among gift-givers this season: a game that lets you take over the world in less than 3 hours (most of the time!) Risk Legacy is hands down the coolest thing we’ve seen in board games over the past few years, and if you haven’t played, you need to! This game takes the Risk we know and love, and makes into a constantly morphing monster that differs with every board. In this version, players are given advantage and disadvantage stickers, faction powers, and even the ability to name countries. Anything stuck to the board during game play is just that–stuck there–so make sure you think it through before you decide to bomb Norway, because it won’t be there next game! Another cool thing about this game–you unlock playing cards during game play. And they’re a secret, so you have to play to find out what wonders (and horrors) lie within. All we can say is buy this game. You will increase someone’s overall happiness by tenfold. At least, until you beat them at owning the world…but that’s not until later.
Hopefully, you’ve learned a little bit about how to become an awesome gift-giver this season. And truthfully any gift is worth receiving. But any gift won’t make you the favorite. So come on by Two Cats Comic Book Store and pick up one of these during your holiday shopping this year, and you’ll be receiving envelopes of money from family and friends in no time. No need to thank us–we’ve got you.
